I WOULD'VE DIED THAT DAY IF NOT FOR YOU
I would've given up on life, if not for your kind eyes. I would have used my teeth in fear, if not for your gentle hand. I would have left this life, believing that all humans don't care. Believing there is no such thing as fur that isn't matted... skin that isn't flea bitten, Good Food and enough of it....... Beds to sleep on.......Someone to love me............to show me I deserve love....... just because I exist. Your kind eyes........... your loving smile.......your gentle hands..... Your big heart saved me!!!!! You saved me from the terror of the pound. You have soothed away the memories of my old life. You have taught me what it means to be loved. I have seen you do the same for other dogs & cats just like me. I have heard you ask yourself in times of despair.. why you do it???? when there is not more money..... No more room.... No more homes.... I see you open your heart a little bigger...... stretch the money a little tighter..... Make just a little more room.....to save one more like me. I tell you this with all the gratitude and love that shines in my eyes. It is the best way I know how....... Reminding you why you go on trying.... I AM THE REASON The dogs & cats before me are the reason As are the ones who come after. Our lives would've been wasted...... Our love never given..... WE WOULD'VE DIED THAT DAY IF NOT FOR YOU!

Below are just some of the many dogs that have been saved and brought into loving ”furever” homes...
Phoenix (Alita) - It's been now 3 months that we have her here and she is a great dog, a wonderful addition to our family. I really have the privilege to take her to work with me when ever my schedule is not too busy and she is very well behaved, since everyone saw how good she is and well mannered they started bringing their dogs to the office too... Oh yeah, she weights now 96 lbs and is all muscle, the doctor is very happy with her... she is very eager to please the family especially me and she shows respect to all of us, overall she is a great Rottie, she gives so many kisses and she talks when she wants to go for a walk or a ride, she loves the back seat and to stick her head out of the window. ~ Chris and the 3 girls
Meisha Lexie Promise Girlie Rumour Dora Lucky & Sable - Thank you very much for allowing us to adopt Lucky and Sable! They are both VERY sweet kids! Lucky is now 'Murphy'!! Seems to fit him. I cringe to think the life he has lived. I've never seen a dog with so much love despite the scars that tell of a terrible life. I just don't understand how some people can do the things they do. But he has a home now, and do you know, I think he knows it too!!
Sable touched feelings in me that I did not dare remember because of the pain thier loss causes. She is so like my Jenny it is spooky. She is left handed, and has that look of utter love in those sad eyes. But they are a little less sad now! Although she doesn't seem to understand that it is ok to eat as much as she wants. There will always be more!
They both like sleeping on their beds. Murphy would like to get up on our bed but can't yet. Hopefully soon!
And Sable?/ She jumped right up on my bed and went to sleep with her head on my belly!! I could have cried. I will have to watch very hard what I call her. So many times already I have started to say 'Jenny'.
Maybe Byron and Jenny guided us to them. To try to give them the lives that they had known. I'd like to think so.
Murphy goes to the vet today. Sable will be going tomorrow. Have to get them in shape!! Summer is right around the corner and they love to ride in a car. Sounds like endless possibilities for all of us!!

Diesel (10/06) Hey there guys, I just wanted to give you an update on Diesel. As of Saturday he has gained ten pounds since we've had him. He looks so much better than when we brought him home. He's an absolutely GREAT dog!!! He has no aggression problems and he is great with our boys. We really lucked out with Diesel, we are very happy that we were able to give him another chance. I looked at the pictures sent before we picked him up and he looked sooooo sick and sad. It made me want to cry. He's so full of energy now !!! - Heather & Anthony J. & Family
Clyde (10/06) Kris (10/06) Shiloh (10/06) Reeses (10/06) Kelley (10/06) Lacey (10/06) Carl (09/06) Buddy (09/06) - formerly known as Buster, was adopted in September 2005. Originally very gaunt, underweight, and infested with heartworms, Buddy today is the picture of health and a very loving boy. It's amazing what a little tender loving care can do. He's a great companion and playmate to our border collie and our two children. In the fall, Buddy will be auditioning for the "Stupid Pet Tricks" segment on the Jay Leno Show because he likes to fool people. He parades around in a Rottweiler body but yodels like a blue tick hound dog. There may be a celebrity career on the horizon for him! Also, don't leave any clothes hampers open with Buddy around or your dirty laundry will be on display in the living room for all your visiting guests to see. Regards from Buddy's family -- Elaine, Jim, Kendall, and Lucas
Jack (09/06) Gandolf (09/06) Sasha (09/06) Daddy and Chance (09/06) - We absolutely love them. We named them Daddy and Chance. Of course the "big one" is named Daddy and the "little one" is named Chance. Thank you for giving us the opportunity to give them a great loving home.
They are so cute and sweet! They are afraid of cats and they love the kids. And of course, the kids love them!
Chance and Reese are best buddies. Daddy doesn't know exactly what to think. Chance and Reese will be romping and growling and barking- playing and Daddy kinda gets defensive for his baby. It's so cute. He's getting better

Bear (f/k/a Sanchez) - I have a new Mom and Dad, and a dog sister known as Alexia. My new life needed a new name for me. I am so happy. I got a nice home and a girl dog who plays as rough as I do; she is 3 years old. I get walked and brushed every day. Alexia and I have a laundry basket of stuffed animals to play with. We are a little rough on them and Mom has to sew them every once in awhile. We share bones, food dishes, treats and even table handouts. Alexia and I lay side by side and we lick one another and show our affection for one another in our own special way. If I get too romantic, Alexia puts me straight, quick !!!!
I’ve put on about 10 lbs since being adopted. My doctor said not to gain anymore. Yeh Right, Mom and Dad are good cooks and always there for hand outs. I'm working on my mouthing and jumping habit. It's coming along though. I don't jump on my Dad, he is handicapped and I help him. He has taught me to pull him into the garage, to wait on the stairs for him to get started up, then pull him up one stair at a time. When my new Mom gets home, she gets a very over zealous greeting. I talk back when she tells me "NO." I want attention first but Alexia always pushes her way in. When Mom is busy I get her attention quick with a little pinch to the butt. But I'm starting to learn that is not quite the attention I was trying to get. I was nearly sent on a long journey but I found Heaven on earth with my new family and home!

Bella - She frolicked around the yard most of Saturday afternoon, while we sat on the deck watching and laughing. She has been for several outings around the neighborhood meeting other folks and dogs (she's a shy little girl). Saturday night we took Bella to Petco and let her pick out a couple of toys, (puppy on sensory overload, she got so tired, she laid down in store to sleep, we ended up carrying her around for a while <grin>). Bella had a full day and by the end of the day, she crashed on the pillows and started snoring (loudly I might add). She slept through the night and around 7:30AM, barked to let us know she was up and ready to go.
Yesterday, we took her to PetSmart, to visit other dogs and (she picked out a couple of more toys) between the rain showers, we got a chance to walk and play in the yard some more. Last night we were out on the deck, she crawled up in my lap and decided it was time to take a puppy nap, on me. Right now Bella has two speeds: wide-open or snoring. <smile>

I just want to give you an update on my sweet Boonie. As you know he is a Therapy Dog and has really come around when it comes to strangers. He has brightened quite a few lives with his quiet demeanor. In July 2006 he worked Camp Horizon's (summer camp for physically and mentally challenged children). He sat with a little girl who didn't want to participate with anyone. She was very quiet and didn't want to talk to anyone. However, she readily "took care" of Boonie for me while I worked with Binky so the other children could throw the ball for Binky to chase. Boonie laid quietly at her side so she could pet him. Tom and I took Boonie, Binky, Shea and our other little rescue, Sammie, to a pet psychic. WOW!! they all had a lot to say. Boonie said he was tied in a yard and pulled real hard to get away but when he left the yard he didn't know how to take care of himself. He had been hit by a car (which is why he limped a little bit in his shoulder), and he had been bitten by a snake, (not a spider as previously thought by the vet). His kennel cough is cleared and his lungs are almost cleared of the lingering respiratory infection. He liked the lady who found him when he was a stray because she wasn't scared of him. He likes to ride in the car and go with me. (He's momma's baby so he goes with momma EVERYWHERE that is possible, even to the get the Sunday newspaper in the box at the end of the driveway). He likes children because they think he's big and strong. He now tops the scale at 150 lbs. He is such a joy to be with and a big snuggle pup. Please, continue to be the guardian angels of such WONDERFUL babies. I am eternally grateful to you for my Boonie. ~ Roberta and Tom

Brandy is doing wonderful. She has taken Brutus' toys and destroyed them (apparently she likes the stuffing). Oh well, she doesn't chew anything else and Baby (on the left), Brutus (middle) and Brandy (on the left) and myself play catch every night. Brandy has helped bring a little life back into Baby who is 12 years old. NC rescue has been a delight to deal with and I plan on adopting from you again in the future. My brother has adopted Jade and she is doing well.

Hi! My name is Chewbacca. I was adopted in May 2005. I have learned lots of commands since I came home. I can sit, stay, lay down, shake, walk, go jogging and stay in the yard without a leash when my big people are outside with me. I have 3 children that I love to play with. I also have 2 older "dog" brothers. And I even have a cat that lets me play with her. (I roll her around a lot, but it is only for fun.) My big people take good care of me and even spoil me by letting me sleep on their bed.

Ralph and Cheyenne Both adopted from NCRR by the Q. Family Diane, Here are two pictures of Ralph and Cheyenne. It's very hard to get the two of them to sit still long enough to take a picture! In the second picture Cheyenne is asleep with her head on Ralph's rear end. They sleep like that a lot, it is so funny. At night they run to the bedroom to see who can get the "good" bed. For some reason Ralph likes to sleep in the Shih Tzu's bed. That is hilarious! It is a little round bed that is wedged in between our dresser and the wall. Ralph climbs up in it somehow and turns himself around until he fits. He pouts if Cody gets there before him. Usually Cody sleeps in our bed so everyone is pretty happy. They are all doing great and getting along. Ralph is really coming out of his shell now that he is getting used to us. He was so quiet the first few weeks. He still is, but he is much more playful that he was at first.

Cody - Legacy of Love. NCRR helps save a life. | view more pictures
In February of 2006 we adopted our first Rottie, her name was Jill. She brought us 20 months of joy and taught us the true nature of Rotties. Her sweet nature and unconditional love in spite of the pain which was a constant in her life proved to be the exact opposite of everything that we thought that we knew about Rotties. Her story drew us to her and we knew that we needed her as much as she needed us. On Friday, 30 November 2007 we lost our beloved Jill. She became very ill over the Thanksgiving holiday and we called our vet. She had a tumor that took up almost half of her body cavity. As painful as the decision was, we knew in our hearts that the only thing to be done was to make her passing as comfortable as possible. We said our tearful good-byes and allowed her to go peacefully. Our hearts were broken.
On December 3rd I went back onto the NCRR site to see who was in foster care. I knew that I would adopt another older Rottie when my heart had some time to heal. I knew that the unconditional love of the breed had won me over. When the site opened I felt as though my heart had shattered all over again. There was Cody, sitting on Death Row with less than 24 hours to live. I could not deal with the death of another lovely lady knowing that I could do something to prevent it. I called Bill into the room and began to cry. I told him through tears that we had to do something. He agreed and told me to go ahead and contact the rescue. I sent a desperate e-mail asking if Cody was still alive. I felt so panicked that I sent the message twice. Then we found the phone number we saved when we adopted Jill and called. Cody was alive at t he moment but her time was short, very short.
Cody was in Fredericksburg, Va. and we are in Fayetteville, NC. We called Elizabeth, the angel who found Cody, and made arrangements to get her. Bill took a day off from work and met Elizabeth and Cody outside of Petersburg, Va. on Thursday 8 December. We were told that Cody had a cold. No problem, we have had dogs with colds before. When Bill received Cody she was dirty, matted, and sick. Elizabeth apologized for not bathing her, but she did not want Cody to get chilled. Cody had been living in a kill shelter for about 3 weeks and picked up the illness there. I was grateful that she was alive. The rest could be fixed.
Cody stood between the front seats of our Caravan during the drive home. Bill rubbed and stroked her for the entire ride. He decided, based upon the amount of dirt and oil on his hand that a bath was not a nice thing, but a necessary thing. The grime of the pound must be washed away. Bill took Cody to a groomer where she would be treated like a lady of luxury and kept toasty warm until she was dry. I saw her for the first time when we picked her up. She was beautiful but she felt so bad that she would not eat. A trip to the vet was scheduled for Saturday morning.
Cody was much sicker that we ever dreamed. She picked up a bacterial pneumonia at the pound. Her lungs were more that half full of mucus and the half that was not full were thready with the nasty stuff. She also had whip worms, probably another gift from the nasty kill shelter. We also found out that our suspicion of hip displacia was correct, but her hips are not very bad.
Due to the advanced stage of the pneumonia, Cody’s white blood cell count was literally off of the chart. It was more than 10 times normal white blood cell count. Dr. Williams commented that it was the worse pneumonia he had ever seen in a dog. He was amazed that she remained good natured through all of the x-rays and blood work. Cody came home with some very strong antibiotics and no appetite. We were encouraged to feed her anything she would eat. Due to the illness, Cody was underweight and she needed good nutrition as much as the medicine to get well. We discovered that she likes plain yogurt. She would eat a couple of tablespoons of yogurt and we felt as though we had accomplished something major.
After about week Cody’s appetite began to return. Christmas Day was wonderful! We had friends over with their 4 small children. Cody was great with the kids. They played until both kids and dogs were exhausted. Cody’s follow-up visit was the day after Christmas. Dr Williams could not believe the difference in her. He confided in me that he was not sure we would be able to save her. He told me that if we had not taken her when we did the pneumonia probably would have killed her before the shelter had a chance too. Dr. Williams estimated Cody’s age as about 8 to 9 years old.
Cody is still on antibiotics. She has to complete one more round to get rid of the stronger bacteria in her lungs. Her last x-ray showed that there is still about ½ to 1 inch of mucus still in the lower part of her lungs, but the top area is completely clear. She regained her appetite after being on medication for about a week and she is up to her normal weight. Her hips are not bad enough to diminish her quality of life. She is able to run, play and climb into and out of my Jeep Wrangler. Since she feels better we discovered that she loves to fetch tennis balls. She also plays with Nikki, our rottie-lab mix.
Even though Cody’s vet bills are unreal (about $1,000), I am so glad that she is a part of our family. Cody helped me to understand how much the rescue has to do for some of the dogs in foster care. If you are touched by Cody’s story, please make a donation so that another sweet Rottie can be saved. I will always be thankful for the day that we opened our home to a Rottie and the lessons taught to me by Jill. Taking in Cody is an honor to Jill’s memory. If you have room in your home, please foster or adopt a Rottie. They are one of the sweetest dogs to ever grace our planet.

Ellie - fostered by Janelle Plotkin and adopted by Sherry G. Ellie made herself right at home on her visit, and really seemed to like the back yard. She patrolled the entire inside perimeter of the fence and explored the house inside and out. She is already comfortable here, climbing into my lap and snuggling up on my feet when I sit in the recliner. In no time at all Lucy will teach her all of her tricks and we'll have to make room in the bed for TWO dogs again! I know it's not official yet, but I'm sure Ellie will be with us soon. Thank you, and please pass on to Barry and everybody else how much we appreciate what NCRR has done to make this happen. Janelle e-mailed me some photos of Ellie in the Christmas fashion show and I sent them to Sherry's office, printed copies off the computer, and created a new desktop background of the one of her in a closeup shot.
Gotta go finish making arrangements for our upcoming addition. I'll notify the vet, let our usual "dog people" hear the good news, and pick something up for Ellie's belated Christmas present. Merry Christmas, I'll be in touch soon. -John and Sherry

Gotti - I have some good news and some not so good news. The not so good first: I may have to have ACL surgery on my LEFT hind leg. My right one is fine but the left one is slightly loose at the knee and I don't like to put much weight on it so I am walking with a limp and ducking my head up and down when I walk. Mom has me on one baby aspirin 2X a day and some natural anti-inflammatory herbs. She is taking me to an otheopaedic clinic in Wilmington, NC to get my eval. on June 13. The vet we see here said that is the closest place to get this work done to make me better. I am still a silly goose and do funny things that make the whole family laugh. When my Mom sprays me with coat spray and brushes me I take a flying leap for my bed and roll around in it and snort and wiggle and kick my feet up in the air and that makes them all laugh. I also have perfected spinning around in the kitchen with my head down making funny growly sounds to get attention.. they just can't resist me. If my mom ignores me when she is washing dishes, I give her a quick nip in the bottom with my front teeth and jump back. She says not to do that but laughs anyway. And I have won the love and trust of most of the people in our neighborhood (what's not to love about me) so I feel like I am being a good Rottie ambassador helping to change people's thinking on Rotties in general. The vet said she told someone about me that was ready to get another Rottie and they went on the NCRR site to get information to adopt. That made me happy to know one of my pals may get a home because of me. Now for the good news: I am really getting to be a big and beautiful Rotti boy! I have gained 13 pounds and now weigh in at a full 83lbs (almost a heavy weight). And my coat is so silky and glossy that people remark about it. The man across the street said I look like a show dog. So all the supplements my mom feeds me are doing good. I still like to let my tongue hang out; sometimes my mom pushes it in to get it wet again. I caught another bug the other day but it tasted bad and I spit it back out fast. I will be glad when I can take long walks again with my mom and dad. That's one of the best things each day. My mom is teaching me to walk with my head held high instead of down low; she wants me to show that I know I am a good boy and to walk proud. Well, I will keep you posted on my progress and thanks again for your love and faithfullness to all of us Rotti's. Love you, Gotti

This is Lillie Ann. She is not really a NCRR dog but her mom wanted her story told. Lillie is a Union County Dog that they fell in love with at the shelter and helped to save her.
Lillie Ann is a great testimony to the strength that we all havein us. All though we don't know a complete history about her, we do know how she came to the Union Count Animal Shelter. On Saturday 9/25/04 she was found tied to a power pole guidewire about 12:30 AM. Our officer was called out by Stallings policedepartment to pick up a stray dog. When she got to the shelter we found that she was severelyburned with what appeared to be hot cooking grease all down her back andthe back of her neck around her collar. Even though she had to be in great pain from these burns, she remained humble and friendly with atrust that is still amazing today. On Monday she was taken to the vetfor medical attention and her progress was very good. Today after a lot of TLC, trust and compassion for her wellbeing, she is doing great. One of the shelter attendants has adoptedher. She hopes to be able to put Lillie Ann as a pet therapist to helpother burn victims see what the awesome power of God can do. Who would have thought a rottweiler who had been so severely abused could be such a great friend. Cindy W.

Minna (fka Missy)
Here are some pics of Minna (formerly known as Missy) that I thought you might enjoy. Please post her pics and letter in "Happy Tails" so her former fosters will know she is happy and well. She is spoiled rotten and has "us" well-trained... she reminds us when it's time for noon treats, mid-afternoon treat, dinner, last walk (treat involved of course.) Our German Shepherd has taught her to lounge... I think they use the chairs more than the people do. They hang out and watch the hummingbirds. She has also gotten very protective of "her" back yard. She has saved the house countless times now from the evil squirrels and birds and acorns falling from the trees that she hears out in the woods. She has a HUGE bark. And at 8pm sharp, you can say good night to Minna because she heads off to bed on her own. A girl likes her quiet time, you know. Take care, Lesa

Nodin- I was checking out the rescue website today and saw Nodin's pictures under the happy tails. It made me smile really big. I always look at the home page (bad news) and then at the Rotties that are in foster homes (better news), but then I have to follow up with some really good stuff, so I go to Happy Tails. Today it really made me smile. I would like to put a little note about Nodin, if i could.
Nodin, what a really sweet boy. Thank you, North Carolina Rottweiler Rescue, for introducing us. It is really hard for us to believe that he spent 8 months at a shelter before being rescued. He is soooooo sweet with everything and everybody he meets. He seems so well socialized. Nodin and our Dixie Doodle are getting along great. They stick together like glue and kiss, kiss, kiss, they sure do love to kiss one another. They are both starting to enjoy the pool. I will bet that they will be swimming laps around each other by the end of summer. All of the people involved with NCRR that we came into contact with were extremely pleasant to deal with. We would like to give a special thank you to Yukon and Kim, Nodin's foster parents, they go the extra mile for all of the babies that are blessed enough to be a part of their family, even if only for a short time. Thank you Yukon and Kim. Thank all ya'll for everything ya'll do for the Rotties, they sure do deserve it.
Sincerely,
Rodney & Tina S.

Nubbs was originally rescued by animal control after his people moved out and abandoned him, leaving him with no food or water for well over a week. Poor Nubbs was found absolutely ematiated and a very, very sad puppy. He was nurtured and taken care of by the animal shelter that received him. The workers absolutely adored him and he began to thrive. He was then transferred to another shelter several states away with a better adoption rate with high hopes of finding him a forever home. It didn't work out that way. He was neglected and starved and they decided he would be euthanized. NCRR found out and sprung into action to save this sweet boy. With the help of many volunteers and donations, Nubbs was taken out of that shelter and transported down to Virginia into his new foster home. When Nubbs arrived he weighed only 54lbs and was so frail he could barely stand. He should have been atleast 90lbs. Nubbs foster family, human and furry, loved Nubbs very much and spent every day reassuring him that he would never again be abused or neglected.
Nubbs quickly learned the fun of playing with toys and his furry brothers and sisters... and the joys of swimming!! Nubbs was given lots of TLC over the next 5 weeks and thrived to a weight of 83 pounds. He has now been adopted with open arms to his perfect forever home. NCRR gives special thanks to the Miller family who are such amazing and generous people. We know Nubbs will live a long and happy life as a part of your family.
Nubbs was fostered by Diane Hoke and Chip Thomas

Onion (fka Logan)

I wanted to send you a picture of "Logan" for your Happy Tails page. He is called Orion now and is a happy, beloved member of our family. In Raleigh he is perfectly urbane, well mannered, top of his obedience class, dog park committee member- plays well with others, doesn’t chase the cats, doesn’t chase the chickens... On the farm he is a dirty, fun loving country cousin, who eats dirt, chases varmits, brings me deer bones, rolls in manure and generally lives a blessed life. This picture is him in the new grass of our fenced pasture. We love him love him love him. Thanks for steering us his way.

Rock - I stumbled across the NCRR site quite by accident and I now check it most every day. My wife and I agreed to "foster" a dog for a while in hopes of helping out several more. We had initially looked at Al but after discussion with the NCRR training rep (probably would not get along with our three), we settled on Rock. It didn't really make any difference to me since they all need help. Anyway, we settled on Rock and met Jim about the NC line on I 85 to pick him up. From the first time I laid eyes on him, I knew I was hooked. I sat in the back of my Grand Marquis with him while my son drove home to Claremont. I knew from the first few miles that there was no such thing as "foster" home. Within two days of being at the house, my wife confirmed my suspicion that the Rock had found a new home. We already had a 140 pound female Rottie (Abby), a 110 pound female Rottie (Angel), and a 75 pound female Shepard mix (Jersey Girl). He took to them right away and became my couch potato buddy watching the news with me. He now has taken over the couch and only permits me to sit on there with him, not the other way around. He is such a joy to have around I can't figure out why anyone would leave him go. He likes to play watch the daddy leave from the kitchen window in the mornings and ducks down if I shine the flashlight on him through the window. He is a real blessing and a pleasure to be around and I thank NCRR for bringing him into our lives. I believe he has a little hound dog mutt in him but he is adorable and has definitely found his last home.

Rocky - I am so sorry I have not written sooner, but I wanted to let you know Rocky is amazing, and doing great.
He is a very smart, and learning new tricks every week, and just gets along great with other dogs, and is just so much fun to have around. I just took a few pictures and want to send them along.
I hope all of your rescues are doing great and just wanted to thank you again. ~Bryan G.

Here are a few pics of Rufus. These were taken right after I got him. He is about 5-7 lbs heavier and looking good. He loves it when I get home. His "tail" (nubber) goes a million miles/hour. He enjoys the walks in the neighborhood. All the kids know him by name and he gets excited when they come up to pet him. He lays down before going out for our walks and waits until I tell him he can come in from outside.
We play tug-of-war with his rope toy (I always win) and he love his kong with treats inside. He loves his cousin, Connie (Dalamation). She is still moody with him. It's getting better. All though we had issues with his cuz, Boy (Jack Russell). Boy did pester and irritate him and he had enough. We're working on those issues with both dogs. He had a weekend sleepover with his cousins, Rocky and Skeeter (Dachhunds), while I was out of town. He enjoyed that, but did miss his dad.
He has been great. I won't say it has been paradise. We have had our messes. But, I wouldn't trade him for anything. - Dan K.

Hi all. It's been several years since my family added Scarlet to our home thanks to all of your hard work. She is a treasure. She still absolutely adores the water and had loads of fun with her "sister" Jasmine in the snow this past winter. She has been healthy and happy. I've attached a couple of photos so you can see how much your work has impacted this wonderful Rottie.
Thank you again for our "queen of the couch".

Shelby & new family - Shelby/Chimpee is getting along with the other dogs REALLY well - I think they all have really taken to her. She is truly a lover! She and Monkee are inseparable - they have to go everywhere together. Her favorite thing to do at the moment is to get the squeaker out of stuffed squeaky toys. When we come home from work, she and Monkee are surrounded by fuzz!! At "nite nite time" both Chimpee and Monkee have decided the most comfortable place to sleep ..... is on each other. - Cheryl Z.

We wanted to give you an update on how Spencer is doing. We've attached some pictures and a video to this email, so you can see him in his new home.
First of all, Spencer is such a good dog! He is so well-behaved; we haven't had to discipline him for anything. He's had a few accidents in the house, but only during the first few days he was home, and then he's been fine ever since. He lays on the couch with us when we watch TV, and he sleeps in bed with us at night. He is definitely a "Velcro" dog, because he has to be right next to us, no matter what we're doing! We both love Spencer, and he's become a great addition to our family. He gets several walks a day, and I (Rachael) run with him occasionally. He still needs to learn how to walk on a leash instead of just dragging us along, though. J We'll be taking him to obedience classes when we get to Nevada. We're leaving North Carolina on February 1st, so the time is getting close! Also, Spencer is doing great with our cats, as you will see in the attached video. He has really taken them over as his little brothers and sisters, I think. Not all of our cats like him, but they're getting used to him slowly but surely. We try to take Spencer with us in the car whenever feasible when we go out, but he never sits in the car by himself for more than a few minutes, like when we stop at a gas station, or something like that. He goes in his crate when we're going to be gone and we can't take him with us, and he doesn't have to be coerced to go in, even though we can tell he really doesn't want to do it. As soon as we open the door, he knows that's his cue to go in his crate. We haven't kept him in his crate for more than four hours or so, and he seems to be fine with that. I come home for lunch every day, so he's never going to be in the crate for much longer than 4-5 hours at a time. He's barked at a few visitors, like the pizza delivery man and the FedEx guy, but he always calms down once he realizes it's ok. Overall, we're really happy he's with us, and we want to thank you again for entrusting us with his care. We can understand why you wanted to make sure he went to the right kind of home. If you have any questions about how he's doing, please drop us a line! Take care, and we'll be in touch with you periodically to let you know how Spencer is doing. We love him a lot!

Tinsel - I wanted to let you know that we made it back home safe and sound and Tinsel did awesome on the ride. We made two stops and one included a Hot Dog for both of the "Kids". They really enjoyed that! Then we stopped at a rest area and we all ran, play, drank and had fun. Tinsel got to meet her new Grammie, my mom, who lives in Cary. We are now settling into the house and she and Arthur had a major play session out back, wow they had fun!
Thank you for introducing us to her. We feel she is the perfect doggie family member for us and Arthur. I will keep you updated with pictures from time to time. Please don't hesitate to call or email and inquire about how she is.
Take care, Liza

Zeus (11/06) - Zeus is doing incredibly well. He is such a sweet dog, and we had fallen in love with him since the moment we laid eyes on him. He's gotten along very well with Allie (our yellow lab). He seems to still have some anxiety with the bunny rabbits. Luckily, they're in a huge 8x8 kennel outside and safe.
Zeus is VERY spoiled and loving every minute of the attention that he constantly gets. He (and Allie) even get "puppy pampered" every couple of weeks @ the groomers. They get a bath and brushed, and smell so good when they're through. And, Zeus doesn't even seem to mind the bath. I guess he feels like he's getting a complete rub down. (Can you tell we adore him?)
